The National Teaching Council (NTC) has recently announced the deadline for registration for the 2024/2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

Aspiring teachers who wish to take part in this important examination must complete their online registration not later than February 20, 2024. This deadline is of utmost importance, and candidates are urged to adhere to it to ensure their eligibility for the upcoming examination.

The GTLE is a crucial step for individuals pursuing a career in teaching in Ghana. It serves as a licensure examination that assesses the competency and knowledge of prospective teachers. By successfully passing the GTLE, candidates are granted the opportunity to obtain their teaching license, a significant milestone in their professional journey.

For the 2024 GTLE I, candidates will be required to write three papers, which encompass various content areas. These papers include the General Professional Knowledge, Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy Paper, and either the Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subject Content Knowledge, depending on their subject specialism.

The papers are designed to evaluate candidates’ understanding of essential teaching principles and their ability to apply them effectively.

Prospective candidates should take note of the content areas and table of specialization provided by the NTC. This information can be accessed on the official NTC website at ntc.gov.gh/gtle-content. Familiarizing oneself with the content areas is crucial for proper preparation and success in the examination

To be eligible for the 2024 GTLE, candidates must meet certain criteria outlined by the NTC. Firstly, a candidate is eligible to write the GTLE only if they hold a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. This requirement ensures that candidates possess the necessary educational background to pursue a teaching career.

For candidates with foreign degrees, an additional step is required to prove their eligibility. They must provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) . This evaluation report serves as verification that their foreign degree is equivalent to the required educational qualifications in Ghana.

The date for the 2024 GTLE I examination has been set for March 17th to 19th, 2024. As the deadline for registration approaches, candidates are strongly encouraged to complete their online registration promptly to avoid any last-minute complications.

Meeting the registration deadline ensures that candidates have ample time to prepare adequately for the examination.

The GTLE is an essential milestone in the professional development of teachers in Ghana. It not only validates their knowledge and skills but also grants them the opportunity to contribute to the education sector with confidence and competence. Therefore, it is crucial for aspiring teachers to pay close attention to the registration deadline and complete their online registration by February 20, 2024.

DETAILS

The National Teaching Council is indexing all the Teachers in the country. It is now required that one must have at least a degree qualification before he/she can be licensed as a professional teacher. The indexing entails the collection of the details of all CONTINUING and GRADUATED education students in the Colleges of Education and Universities to generate specific codes for them to easily access the NTC online resources.

In this regard, the NTC shall send SMS messages through the mobile number provided by trainees to their colleges. The SMS bears their Name, Code and a link to the NTC Indexing website. Candidates are expected to open the link and fill in the necessary requirements as may be needed.

Candidates who are not indexed will not be allowed to sit for the licensure examination. From this year, NTC intends to implement the indexing fee of 50 Ghana cedis per student as approved by Parliament under fees and charges.

Also, a candidate who may not receive their messages or cannot pay at the bank should contact his/her college authorities to confirm whether their information has been sent to the NTC.

HOW TO GET YOUR INDEXING NUMBER

Visit any Prudential Bank Branch nationwide or simply dial *772*51# and pay an amount of GHC50 as indexing fee.

After payment has been made successfully, you will receive an SMS which contains your indexing number. If you failed to receive the SMS, you can use the transaction number indicated on your payment receipt.

Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify and update your details.

You are required to keep your indexing number safe, since it will be used for GTLE registration.
